5 Universal Colors to Ensure & Preserve your Serve (No Matter Your Season)

So, maybe you’ve just started learning about color analysis and you haven’t quite figured out your season yet. You’re thinking; oh shit… do none of my clothes look good on me? Is my favorite lipstick making me look tired? I get it, we’ve all been there.

Allow me to talk you off of that ledge. While yes, the colors within your specific season and undertone will compliment you best and bring out your natural radiance, there are colors that balance within color theory and work with hues from every season. If you wear any of these 5 colors, you’re safe from any of the potentially negative effects of wearing colors outside your season!

1. True Red

While other shades of Red can lean warm or cool (ie; tomato red vs raspberry red), a True Red has a balanced, neutral undertone. This makes it adaptable to a color schemes with any undertone, along with its’ chroma sitting right in the middle of Muted and Bright. As long as you’re careful that the Red you pull is indeed a True Red with neutral undertones, anyone can stun in this eye-catching color.

2. Navy Blue

While any blue will be inherently cool toned, Navy Blue is deep and neutral enough to mesh nicely with colors from any palette. In fact, every single palette in all 12 seasons contains some version of Navy! If you suspect you might be warm-toned, look for slight yellow undertones for a particularly complimentary Navy, but no matter what - Navy will be a safe bet.

3. Off White

Many people live with the assumption that Black and White are universally flattering colors. This really couldn’t be further from the truth! For example, White is actually one of the worst colors on a Warm Autumn, as it reads both cool and bright. If you’re not sure what your season is, you really can’t go wrong with an off-white. Ecru, Ivory, “Whisper White” - you name it; it’ll blend well regardless of your season or undertone.

4. True Green

Much like the neutrality of the undertones in True Red; True Green sits at the exact intersection of Blue and Yellow. Colors that lean blue are more cool toned and colors that lean yellow are warm toned; ipso facto a True Green is another perfect neutral. It also sits just between brightness and softness; making it a great and safe choice for any skin tone.

5. Charcoal Grey

Last on today’s list is a classic neutral - Charcoal Grey. Softer and warmer than a stark Black while still reading dark, this particular tone of Grey works incredibly well with colors from any season. Grey is typically a cool tone and can be tricky for folks with warmer undertones, but Charcoal has the warmth of a subtle brown peaking through, making it work for anyone.
